About our leather: quality leather is only lightly processed and retains the scars and blemishes of the original hide. Quality leather also matures as you use it. Also, we usually retain the "grain" of the leather - a strong layer of fibers within leather that increases the durability of the leather we use.

Robust sofa using thick leather
The hardest and thickest authentic tanned leather among Tochigi leathers.
The sofa is made of strong leather normally used for belts and back handles.
It becomes more supple with use, but still has a very hard finish for a sofa. -
Edge of leather polished that emphasizes the design
2.2mm thick and hard leather cannot be sewn by a normal manufacturing method.
Two pieces of leather are layered and sewn with a special sewing machine.
The plump roundness typical of sofas and the edge of the corners are accentuated by the edge of leather polished, resulting in a beautiful shape. -
Design of timeless shapes
The reason for using durable leather was to create a simple shape that would be loved for a long time.
Materials should be long-lasting.
The design pays homage to Le Corbusier's LC2, a masterpiece that has remained timeless. -
Solid leg of steel

OUR STORY

"It sounds like you make a good leather sofa"
Designer "Fumio Kawasaki" approached me at the exhibition hall of the 2004 Milano Salone.
The conversation proceeded on the spot, and we decided to try a leather sofa so tough that it would not need replacing for decades.In no time at all, the design was finished and the drawings were sent to us. -
Beginning of hardship
First of all, choosing a leather. Speaking of tanners that make durable leather, "Tochigi leather".
The tougher the leather, the more oil it contains. But it is difficult to process.
We were determined to develop a processing method. -
Apprenticeship after the age of 60
To learn how to process the leather, the previous president of the company himself entered a workshop that made bags from hard leather and a shoemaking school.
By the time a year or two had passed in this way, we had a good idea of how to process the product. -
I'm getting better at it
Although the sofa managed to take shape, at first it was an embarrassing finish to serve to customers.
However, after two or three prototypes, the craftsmen got creative and gradually got better at it.
Thus, four years later, "BADY" the predecessor of "HIBIKI", was finally created.
